Building Permits Granted

Between the beginning of January and the end of March 2005 the planning and building control authorities granted a total of 27 274 building permits on the territory of the Czech Republic, which is 1 984 permits down on the corresponding period of 2004.
There were 14 473 building permits granted for buildings in total (i.e. – 1 536 year-on-year) of which residential buildings accounted for 9 430 permits (- 1 034) and non-residential buildings for 5 043 (- 502).
The number of building permits granted for constructions for environmental protections was 6 309 which translates into an increase of 30.
The number of building permits granted for other constructions amounted to 6 492, which is by 478 less than in the corresponding period of 2004.

Of the total 27 274 building permits, 13 528 was granted for new construction (49.6%) and 13 746 for renewals and enhancements (50.4%).

Territorially, rather high investment activities are expected in the Středočeský Region (18.3%), Jihomoravský Region (12.5%) and the capital city of Prague (9.8%), which is in contrast to the lowest construction activities expected in the Karlovarský Region (3.2%), the Liberecký Region (3.4%) and Pardubický Region (3.9%).

There were 9 430 building permits granted for residential buildings: 2 958 of them for new construction and 6 472 for renewals and enhancements. Most of them were granted in the Středočeský Region (16.6%), the Jihomoravský Region (12.4%) and the Moravskoslezský Region (8.5%). 1 775 building permits issued on the territory of the capital city of Prague make up 18.8%, of which 4.1% account for new construction. 68.6% of the building permits granted of the total comes under renewals and enhancements.

The buildings, which were given a go-ahead for the start of construction in January and March, are supposed to provide 13 977 dwellings throughout the Czech Republic. New construction should provide 6 691 dwellings (47.9%; 6 640 and 51 dwellings in residential and non-residential buildings, respectively). Renewals and enhancements resulting in dwellings should be provide 2 118 dwellings (15.2%; 1 584 in residential buildings and 534 in non-residential buildings). Total 8 809 new dwellings. The other renewals and enhancements (i.e. those that do not produce new dwellings) should result in 5 168 reconstructed dwellings (37.0%).

The approximate value of the constructions, for the commencement of which the planning and building control authorities granted building permits by the end of March, amounts to CZK 72 782 million at current prices, which translates into an increase of CZK 9 884 million on the corresponding period of 2004.
A total of CZK 41 322 million (an increase of CZK 5 839 million year-on-year, i.e. + 16.5%) should be spent on construction of buildings, of which CZK 19 304 million on residential buildings (by CZK 1 095 million more) and CZK 22 018 million on non-residential ones (+ CZK 4 744 million).
A total of CZK 5 601 million should be invested in constructions for environmental protection - i.e. by CZK 184 million less than in the corresponding period of 2004.
The approximate value for the other constructions amounts to CZK 25 859 million - an increase of CZK 4 229 million on the corresponding period of 2004.
