Building Permits Granted

Between the beginning of January and the end of June 2005 the planning and building control authorities granted a total of 64 864 building permits on the territory of the Czech Republic, which is 6 211 permits down on the corresponding period of 2004.
There were 35 112 building permits granted for buildings in total (i.e. – 4 283 year-on-year) of which residential buildings accounted for 23 063 permits (– 2 337) and non-residential buildings for 12 049 (– 1 946).
The number of building permits granted for constructions for environmental protections was 14 474 which translates into a decrease of 298.
The number of building permits granted for other constructions amounted to 15 278, which is by 1 630 less than in the corresponding period of 2004.

Of the total 64 864 building permits, 32 374 was granted for new construction (49.9%) and 32 490 for renewals and enhancements (50.1%).

Territorially, rather high investment activities are expected in the Středočeský Region (18.4%), Jihomoravský Region (13.2%) and the capital city of Prague (9.0%), which is in contrast to the lowest construction activities expected in the Karlovarský Region (2.8%), the Liberecký Region (3.5%) and Pardubický Region (4.1%).

There were 23 063 building permits granted for residential buildings: 7 533 of them for new construction and 15 530 for renewals and enhancements. Most of them were granted in the Středočeský Region (17.0%), the Jihomoravský Region (12.5%) and the Moravskoslezský Region (8.7%). 3 814 building permits issued on the territory of the capital city of Prague make up 16.5%, of which 3.8% account for new construction. 67.3% of the building permits granted of the total comes under renewals and enhancements.

The buildings, which were given a go-ahead for the start of construction in January and June, are supposed to provide 31 350 dwellings throughout the Czech Republic. New construction should provide 14 354 dwellings (45.8%; 14 132 and 222 dwellings in residential and non-residential buildings, respectively). Renewals and enhancements resulting in dwellings should be provide 4 325 dwellings (13.8%; 3 231 in residential buildings and 1 094 in non-residential buildings). Total 18 679 new dwellings. The other renewals and enhancements (i.e. those that do not produce new dwellings) should result in 12 671 reconstructed dwellings (40.4%).

The approximate value of the constructions, for the commencement of which the planning and building control authorities granted building permits by the end of June, amounts to CZK 157 267 million at current prices, which translates into an increase of CZK 16 161 million on the corresponding period of 2004.
A total of CZK 93 066 million (an increase of CZK 5 730 million year-on-year, i.e. + 6.6%) should be spent on construction of buildings, of which CZK 43 905 million on residential buildings (by CZK 112 million less) and CZK 49 161 million on non-residential ones (+ CZK 5 842 million).
A total of CZK 13 104 million should be invested in constructions for environmental protection - i.e. by CZK 1 331 million more than in the corresponding period of 2004.
The approximate value for the other constructions amounts to CZK 51 097 million - an increase of CZK 9 100 million on the corresponding period of 2004.
