Building Permits Granted

Between the beginning of January and the end of February 2005 the planning and building control authorities granted a total of 16 769 building permits on the territory of the Czech Republic, which is 518 permits down on the corresponding period of 2004.
There were 8 568 building permits granted for buildings in total (i.e. - 874 year-on-year) of which residential buildings accounted for 5 489 permits (- 642) and non-residential buildings for 3 079 (- 232).
The number of building permits granted for constructions for environmental protections was 4 123 which translates into an increase of 413.
The number of building permits granted for other constructions amounted to 4 078, which is by 57 less than in the corresponding period of 2004.

Of the total 16 769 building permits, 8 350 was granted for new construction (49.8%) and 8 419 for renewals and enhancements (50.2%).

Territorially, rather high investment activities are expected in the Středočeský Region (18.0%), Jihomoravský Region (12.2%) and the capital city of Prague (9.5%), which is in contrast to the lowest construction activities expected in the Karlovarský Region (3.1%), the Liberecký Region (3.6%) and Pardubický Region (3.7%).

There were 5 489 building permits granted for residential buildings: 1 663 of them for new construction and 3 826 for renewals and enhancements. Most of them were granted in the Středočeský Region (15.3%), the Jihomoravský Region (12.2%) and the Moravskoslezský Region (8.9%). 1 028 building permits issued on the territory of the capital city of Prague make up 18.7%, of which 3.5% account for new construction. 69.7% of the building permits granted of the total comes under renewals and enhancements.

The buildings, which were given a go-ahead for the start of construction in January and February, are supposed to provide 8 108 dwellings throughout the Czech Republic. New construction should provide 3 624 dwellings (44.7%; 3 599 and 25 dwellings in residential and non-residential buildings, respectively). Renewals and enhancements resulting in dwellings should be provide 1 292 dwellings (15.9%; 971 in residential buildings and 321 in non-residential buildings). Total 4 916 new dwellings. The other renewals and enhancements (i.e. those that do not produce new dwellings) should result in 3 192 reconstructed dwellings (39.4%).

The approximate value of the constructions, for the commencement of which the planning and building control authorities granted building permits by the end of February, amounts to CZK 43 638 million at current prices, which translates into an increase of CZK 2 018 million on the corresponding period of 2004.
A total of CZK 24 787 million (an increase of CZK 2 949 million year-on-year, i.e. + 13.5%) should be spent on construction of buildings, of which CZK 10 319 million on residential buildings (by CZK 1 295 million less) and CZK 14 468 million on non-residential ones (+ CZK 4 244 million).
A total of CZK 3 473 million should be invested in constructions for environmental protection - i.e. by CZK 490 million more than in the corresponding period of 2004.
The approximate value for the other constructions amounts to CZK 15 378 million - a decrease of CZK 1 421 million on the corresponding period of 2004.
