Building Permits Granted

Between the beginning of January and the end of December 2005 the planning and building control authorities granted a total of 142 941 building permits on the territory of the Czech Republic, which is 10 681 permits down on the corresponding period of 2004.
There were 73 642 building permits granted for buildings in total (i.e. – 7 261 year-on-year) of which residential buildings accounted for 47 974 permits (– 3 490) and non-residential buildings for 29 439 (– 3 771).
The number of building permits granted for constructions for environmental protections was 33 691 which translates into a decrease of 2 374.
The number of building permits granted for other constructions amounted to 35 608, which is by 1 046 less than in the corresponding period of 2004.
Of the total 142 941 building permits, 74 513 was granted for new construction (52.1%) and 62 917 for renewals and enhancements (47.9%).
Territorially, rather high investment activities are expected in the Středočeský Region (18.4%), Jihomoravský Region (13.8%) and Moravskoslezský Region and Prague (8.2%), which is in contrast to the lowest construction activities expected in the Karlovarský Region (2.9%), the Liberecký Region (3.9%) and Pardubický Region (4.1%).
There were 47 974 building permits granted for residential buildings: 16 614 of them for new construction and 31 360 for renewals and enhancements. Most of them were granted in the Středočeský Region (17.8%), the Jihomoravský Region (12.5%) and the Moravskoslezský Region (8.7%). 7 485 building permits issued on the territory of the capital city of Prague make up 15.6%, of which 3.6% account for new construction. 65.4% of the building permits granted of the total comes under renewals and enhancements.
The buildings, which were given a go-ahead for the start of construction in January and December, are supposed to provide 66 305 dwellings throughout the Czech Republic. New construction should provide 33 690 dwellings (50.8%; 32 887 and 803 dwellings in residential and non-residential buildings, respectively). Renewals and enhancements resulting in dwellings should be provide 7 938 dwellings (12.0%; 5 824 in residential buildings and 2 114 in non-residential buildings). Total 41 628 new dwellings. The other renewals and enhancements (i.e. those that do not produce new dwellings) should result in 24 677 reconstructed dwellings (37.2%).
The approximate value of the constructions, for the commencement of which the planning and building control authorities granted building permits by the end of December, amounts to CZK 325 824 million at current prices, which translates into an increase of CZK 10 752 million on the corresponding period of 2004.
A total of CZK 205 875 million (an increase of CZK 11 853 million year-on-year, i.e. + 6.1%) should be spent on construction of buildings, of which CZK 97 259 million on residential buildings (by CZK 2 667 million more) and CZK 108 616 million on non-residential ones (+ CZK 9 186 million).
A total of CZK 28 421 million should be invested in constructions for environmental protection - i.e. by CZK 3 419 million more than in the corresponding period of 2004.
The approximate value for the other constructions amounts to CZK 91 528 million - a decrease of CZK 4 520 million on the corresponding period of 2004.
