Building Permits Granted

Between the beginning of January and the end of August 2005 the planning and building control authorities granted a total of 91 654 building permits on the territory of the Czech Republic, which is 7 065 permits down on the corresponding period of 2004.
There were 49 015 building permits granted for buildings in total (i.e. – 5 190 year-on-year) of which residential buildings accounted for 32 035 permits (– 2 695) and non-residential buildings for 16 980 (– 2 495).
The number of building permits granted for constructions for environmental protections was 20 592 which translates into a decrease of 415.
The number of building permits granted for other constructions amounted to 22 047, which is by 1 460 less than in the corresponding period of 2004.
Of the total 91 654 building permits, 46 714 was granted for new construction (51.0%) and 44 940 for renewals and enhancements (49.0%).
Territorially, rather high investment activities are expected in the Středočeský Region (18.4%), Jihomoravský Region (13.2%) and the capital city of Prague (8.4%), which is in contrast to the lowest construction activities expected in the Karlovarský Region (2.8%), the Liberecký Region (3.7%) and Pardubický Region (4.2%).
There were 32 035 building permits granted for residential buildings: 10 876 of them for new construction and 21 159 for renewals and enhancements. Most of them were granted in the Středočeský Region (17.4%), the Jihomoravský Region (12.2%) and the Moravskoslezský Region (8.6%). 4 964 building permits issued on the territory of the capital city of Prague make up 15.5%, of which 3.5% account for new construction. 66.0% of the building permits granted of the total comes under renewals and enhancements.
The buildings, which were given a go-ahead for the start of construction in January and August, are supposed to provide 43 667 dwellings throughout the Czech Republic. New construction should provide 21 290 dwellings (47.8%; 20 940 and 350 dwellings in residential and non-residential buildings, respectively). Renewals and enhancements resulting in dwellings should be provide 5 589 dwellings (12.8%; 4 070 in residential buildings and 1 519 in non-residential buildings). Total 26 879 new dwellings. The other renewals and enhancements (i.e. those that do not produce new dwellings) should result in 16 788 reconstructed dwellings (38.4%).
The approximate value of the constructions, for the commencement of which the planning and building control authorities granted building permits by the end of August, amounts to CZK 220 101 million at current prices, which translates into an increase of CZK 22 409 million on the corresponding period of 2004.
A total of CZK 133 285 million (an increase of CZK 10 812 million year-on-year, i.e. + 8.8%) should be spent on construction of buildings, of which CZK 63 019 million on residential buildings (by CZK 2 373 million more) and CZK 70 266 million on non-residential ones (+ CZK 8 439 million).
A total of CZK 18 084 million should be invested in constructions for environmental protection - i.e. by CZK 1 803 million more than in the corresponding period of 2004.
The approximate value for the other constructions amounts to CZK 68 732 million - an increase of CZK 9 794 million on the corresponding period of 2004.
