Building Permits Granted

Between the beginning of January and the end of April 2005 the planning and building control authorities granted a total of 38 153 building permits on the territory of the Czech Republic, which is 4 180 permits down on the corresponding period of 2004.
There were 20 550 building permits granted for buildings in total (i.e. – 2 763 year-on-year) of which residential buildings accounted for 13 392 permits (– 1 813) and non-residential buildings for 7 158 (– 950).
The number of building permits granted for constructions for environmental protections was 8 649 which translates into a decrease of 298.
The number of building permits granted for other constructions amounted to 8 954, which is by 1 119 less than in the corresponding period of 2004.
Of the total 38 153 building permits, 18 859 was granted for new construction (49.4%) and 19 294 for renewals and enhancements (50.6%).
Territorially, rather high investment activities are expected in the Středočeský Region (18.3%), Jihomoravský Region (13.1%) and the capital city of Prague (9.5%), which is in contrast to the lowest construction activities expected in the Karlovarský Region (3.1%), the Liberecký Region (3.5%) and Pardubický Region (4.0%).
There were 13 392 building permits granted for residential buildings: 4 316 of them for new construction and 9 076 for renewals and enhancements. Most of them were granted in the Středočeský Region (16.6%), the Jihomoravský Region (12.4%) and the Moravskoslezský Region (8.3%). 2 404 building permits issued on the territory of the capital city of Prague make up 18.0%, of which 4.4% account for new construction. 67.8% of the building permits granted of the total comes under renewals and enhancements.
The buildings, which were given a go-ahead for the start of construction in January and April, are supposed to provide 18 664 dwellings throughout the Czech Republic. New construction should provide 8 929 dwellings (47.8%; 8 842 and 86 dwellings in residential and non-residential buildings, respectively). Renewals and enhancements resulting in dwellings should be provide 2 799 dwellings (15.0%; 2 116 in residential buildings and 683 in non-residential buildings). Total 11 727 new dwellings. The other renewals and enhancements (i.e. those that do not produce new dwellings) should result in 6 937 reconstructed dwellings (37.2%).
The approximate value of the constructions, for the commencement of which the planning and building control authorities granted building permits by the end of April, amounts to CZK 97 881 million at current prices, which translates into an increase of CZK 5 829 million on the corresponding period of 2004.
A total of CZK 55 109 million (an increase of CZK 3 033 million year-on-year, i.e. + 5.8%) should be spent on construction of buildings, of which CZK 26 333 million on residential buildings (by CZK 53 million less) and CZK 28 776 million on non-residential ones (+ CZK 3 086 million).
A total of CZK 8 727 million should be invested in constructions for environmental protection - i.e. by CZK 998 million more than in the corresponding period of 2004.
The approximate value for the other constructions amounts to CZK 34 045 million - an increase of CZK 1 798 million on the corresponding period of 2004.
