Building Permits Granted

In January 2005 the planning and building control authorities granted a total of 8 713 building permits on the territory of the Czech Republic, which is 21 permits up on the corresponding period of 2004.
There were 4 240 building permits granted for buildings in total (i.e. - 528 year-on-year) of which residential buildings accounted for 2 687 permits (- 398) and non-residential buildings for 1 553 (- 130).
The number of building permits granted for constructions for environmental protections was 2 299 which translates into an increase of 287.
The number of building permits granted for other constructions amounted to 2 174, which is by 262 more than in the corresponding period of 2004.

Of the total 8 713 building permits, 4 346 was granted for new construction (49.9%) and 4 367 for renewals and enhancements (50.1%).

Territorially, rather high investment activities are expected in the Středočeský Region (19.6%), Jihomoravský Region (12.4%) and the capital city of Prague (9.4%), which is in contrast to the lowest construction activities expected in the Karlovarský Region (2.8%) and the Liberecký and Pardubický Region (3.5%).

There were 2 687 building permits granted for residential buildings: 804 of them for new construction and 1 883 for renewals and enhancements. Most of them were granted in the Středočeský Region (16.0%), the Jihomoravský Region (12.2%) and the Moravskoslezský Region (8.9%). 532 building permits issued on the territory of the capital city of Prague make up 19.8%, of which 4.2% account for new construction. 70.1% of the building permits granted of the total comes under renewals and enhancements.

The buildings, which were given a go-ahead for the start of construction in January, are supposed to provide 3 833 dwellings throughout the Czech Republic. New construction should provide 1 629 dwellings (42.5%; 1 625 and 4 dwellings in residential and non-residential buildings, respectively). Renewals and enhancements resulting in dwellings should be provide 616 dwellings (16.1%; 498 in residential buildings and 118 in non-residential buildings). Total 2 245 new dwellings. The other renewals and enhancements (i.e. those that do not produce new dwellings) should result in 1 588 reconstructed dwellings (41.4%).

The approximate value of the constructions, for the commencement of which the planning and building control authorities granted building permits in January, amounts to CZK 22 349 million at current prices, which translates into a decrease of CZK 2 916 million on the corresponding period of 2004.
A total of CZK 12 399 million (an increase of CZK 1 709 million year-on-year, i.e. + 16.0%) should be spent on construction of buildings, of which CZK 4 667 million on residential buildings (by CZK 1 704 million less) and CZK 7 732 million on non-residential ones (+ CZK 3 413 million).
A total of CZK 1 880 million should be invested in constructions for environmental protection - i.e. by CZK 335 million more than in the corresponding period of 2004.
The approximate value for the other constructions amounts to CZK 8 070 million - a decrease of CZK 4 960 million on the corresponding period of 2004.
