Building Permits Granted

Between the beginning of January and the end of December 2004 the planning and building control authorities granted a total of 153 622 building permits on the territory of the Czech Republic, which is 4 283 permits up on the corresponding period of 2003.
There were 80 903 building permits granted for buildings in total (i.e. + 565 year-on-year) of which residential buildings accounted for 51 464 permits (- 484) and non-residential buildings for 29 439 (+ 1 049).
The number of building permits granted for constructions for environmental protections was 36 065 which translates into a decrease of 362.
The number of building permits granted for other constructions amounted to 36 654, which is by 4 080 more than in the corresponding period of 2003.

Of the total 153 622 building permits, 75 835 was granted for new construction (49.4%) and 77 787 for renewals and enhancements (50.6%).

Territorially, rather high investment activities are expected in the Středočeský Region (18.0%), Jihomoravský Region (13.2%) and the capital city of Prague (8.5%), which is in contrast to the lowest construction activities expected in the Karlovarský Region (2.7%), the Liberecký Region (4.1%) and the Pardubický Region (4.2%).

There were 51 464 building permits granted for residential buildings: 16 820 of them for new construction and 34 644 for renewals and enhancements. Most of them were granted in the Středočeský Region (18.4%), the Jihomoravský Region (11.8%) and the Moravskoslezský Region (8.7%). 7 993 building permits issued on the territory of the capital city of Prague make up 15.5%, of which 4.0% account for new construction. 67.3% of the building permits granted of the total comes under renewals and enhancements.

The buildings, which were given a go-ahead for the start of construction in January and December, are supposed to provide 63 321 dwellings throughout the Czech Republic. New construction should provide 31 067 dwellings (49.1%; 30 618 and 449 dwellings in residential and non-residential buildings, respectively). Renewals and enhancements resulting in dwellings should be provide 8 877 dwellings (14.0%; 6 568 in residential buildings and 2 309 in non-residential buildings). Total 39 944 new dwellings. The other renewals and enhancements (i.e. those that do not produce new dwellings) should result in 23 377 reconstructed dwellings (36.9%).

The approximate value of the constructions, for the commencement of which the planning and building control authorities granted building permits by the end of December, amounts to CZK 315 072 million at current prices, which translates into an increase of CZK 28 844 million on the corresponding period of 2003.
A total of CZK 194 022 million (an increase of CZK 11 151 million year-on-year, i.e. + 6.1%) should be spent on construction of buildings, of which CZK 94 592 million on residential buildings (by CZK 8 515 million more) and CZK 99 430 million on non-residential ones (+ CZK 2 636 million).
A total of CZK 25 002 million should be invested in constructions for environmental protection - i.e. by CZK 1 004 million less than in the corresponding period of 2003.
The approximate value for the other constructions amounts to CZK 96 048 million - a rise of CZK 18 697 million on the corresponding period of 2003.
