Building Permits Granted

Between the beginning of January and the end of September 2004 the planning and building control authorities granted a total of 113 677 building permits on the territory of the Czech Republic, which is 5 072 permits up on the corresponding period of 2003.
There were 61 829 building permits granted for buildings in total (i.e. + 1 304 year-on-year) of which residential buildings accounted for 39 612 permits (+ 164) and non-residential buildings for 22 217 (+ 1 140).
The number of building permits granted for constructions for environmental protections was 24 919 which translates into a decrease of 421.
The number of building permits granted for other constructions amounted to 26 929, which is by 4 189 more than in the corresponding period of 2003.

Of the total 113 677 building permits, 55 395 was granted for new construction (48.7%) and 58 282 for renewals and enhancements (51.3%).

Territorially, rather high investment activities are expected in the Středočeský Region (18.0%), Jihomoravský Region (12.9%) and the capital city of Prague (8.6%), which is in contrast to the lowest construction activities expected in the Karlovarský Region (2.7%), the Liberecký Region (3.9%) and the Pardubický Region (4.3%).

There were 39 612 building permits granted for residential buildings: 13 021 of them for new construction and 26 591 for renewals and enhancements. Most of them were granted in the Středočeský Region (18.2%), the Jihomoravský Region (12.2%) and the Moravskoslezský Region (8.5%). 6 014 building permits issued on the territory of the capital city of Prague make up 15.2%, of which 3.8% account for new construction. 67.1% of the building permits granted of the total comes under renewals and enhancements.

The buildings, which were given a go-ahead for the start of construction in January and September, are supposed to provide 48 531 dwellings throughout the Czech Republic. New construction should provide 23 059 dwellings (47.5%; 22 648 and 411 dwellings in residential and non-residential buildings, respectively). Renewals and enhancements resulting in dwellings should be provide 7 093 dwellings (14.6%; 5 087 in residential buildings and 2 006 in non-residential buildings). Total 30 152 new dwellings. The other renewals and enhancements (i.e. those that do not produce new dwellings) should result in 18 379 reconstructed dwellings (37.9%).

The approximate value of the constructions, for the commencement of which the planning and building control authorities granted building permits by the end of September, amounts to CZK 227 220 million at current prices, which translates into an increase of CZK 11 386 million on the corresponding period of 2003.
A total of CZK 140 302 million (an increase of CZK 4 678 million year-on-year, i.e. + 3.4%) should be spent on construction of buildings, of which CZK 69 903 million on residential buildings (by CZK 5 503 million more) and CZK 70 399 million on non-residential ones (- CZK 627 million).
A total of CZK 18 796 million should be invested in constructions for environmental protection - i.e. by CZK 486 million less than in the corresponding period of 2003.
The approximate value for the other constructions amounts to CZK 68 122 million - a rise of CZK 7 194 million on the corresponding period of 2003.
