Building Permits Granted

Between the beginning of January and the end of November 2004 the planning and building control authorities granted a total of 140 892 building permits on the territory of the Czech Republic, which is 3 703 permits up on the corresponding period of 2003.

There were 74 996 building permits granted for buildings in total (i.e. + 507 year-on-year) of which residential buildings accounted for 47 934 permits (- 453) and non-residential buildings for 27 062 (+ 960).

The number of building permits granted for constructions for environmental protections was 32 443 which translates into a decrease of 634.
The number of building permits granted for other constructions amounted to 33 453, which is by 3 830 more than in the corresponding period of 2003.

Of the total 140 892 building permits, 69 200 was granted for new construction (49.1%) and 71 692 for renewals and enhancements (50.9%).

Territorially, rather high investment activities are expected in the Středočeský Region (18.0%), Jihomoravský Region (13.0%) and the capital city of Prague (8.5%), which is in contrast to the lowest construction activities expected in the Karlovarský Region (2.7%), the Liberecký Region (4.0%) and the Pardubický Region (4.2%).

There were 47 934 building permits granted for residential buildings: 15 740 of them for new construction and 32 194 for renewals and enhancements. Most of them were granted in the Středočeský Region (18.4%), the Jihomoravský Region (11.8%) and the Moravskoslezský Region (8.7%). 7 313 building permits issued on the territory of the capital city of Prague make up 15.3%, of which 3.9% account for new construction. 67.2% of the building permits granted of the total comes under renewals and enhancements.

The buildings, which were given a go-ahead for the start of construction in January and November, are supposed to provide 58 815 dwellings throughout the Czech Republic. New construction should provide 28 548 dwellings (48.5%; 28 113 and 435 dwellings in residential and non-residential buildings, respectively). Renewals and enhancements resulting in dwellings should be provide 8 290 dwellings (14.1%; 6 117 in residential buildings and 2 173 in non-residential buildings). Total 36 838 new dwellings. The other renewals and enhancements (i.e. those that do not produce new dwellings) should result in 21 777 reconstructed dwellings (37.0%).

The approximate value of the constructions, for the commencement of which the planning and building control authorities granted building permits by the end of November, amounts to CZK 285 211 million at current prices, which translates into an increase of CZK 21 929 million on the corresponding period of 2003.

A total of CZK 177 804 million (an increase of CZK 13 347 million year-on-year, i.e. + 8.1%) should be spent on construction of buildings, of which CZK 87 656 million on residential buildings (by CZK 7 688 million more) and CZK 90 148 million on non-residential ones (+ CZK 5 659 million).

A total of CZK 22 740 million should be invested in constructions for environmental protection - i.e. by CZK 1 496 million less than in the corresponding period of 2003.
The approximate value for the other constructions amounts to CZK 84 667 million - a rise of CZK 10 078 million on the corresponding period of 2003.
