Building Permits Granted

Between the beginning of January and the end of May 2004 the planning and building control authorities granted a total of 56 314 building permits on the territory of the Czech Republic, which is 7 131 permits up on the corresponding period of 2003.

There were 31 118 building permits granted for buildings in total (i.e. + 2 650 year-on-year) of which residential buildings accounted for 20 193 permits (+ 1 626) and non-residential buildings for 10 925 (+ 1 024).

The number of building permits granted for constructions for environmental protections was 11 789, which translates into an increase of 1 325.

The number of building permits granted for other constructions amounted to 13 407, which is by 3 156 more than in the corresponding period of 2003.

Of the total 56 314 building permits, 26 827 was granted for new construction (47.6%) and 29 487 for renewals and enhancements (52.4%).

Territorially, rather high investment activities are expected in the Středočeský Region (17.9%), Jihomoravský Region (13.1%) and the capital city of Prague (9.3%), which is in contrast to the lowest construction activities expected in the Karlovarský Region (2.7%), Liberecký Region (3.8%) and the Pardubický Region (4.3%).

There were 20 193 building permits granted for residential buildings: 6 379 of them for new construction and 13 814 for renewals and enhancements. Most of them were granted in the Středočeský Region (17.6%), the Jihomoravský Region (12.2%) and the Moravskoslezský Region (8.2%). 3 310 building permits issued on the territory of the capital city of Prague make up 16.4%, of which 4.6% account for new construction. 68.4% of the building permits granted of the total comes under renewals and enhancements.

The buildings, which were given a go-ahead for the start of construction in January and May, are supposed to provide 25 168 dwellings throughout the Czech Republic. New construction should provide 11 452 dwellings (45.5%; 11 267 and 185 dwellings in residential and non-residential buildings, respectively). Renewals and enhancements resulting in dwellings should be provide 3 954 dwellings (15.7%; 2 741 in residential buildings and 1 213 in non-residential buildings). Total 15 406 new dwellings. The other renewals and enhancements (i.e. those that do not produce new dwellings) should result in 9 762 reconstructed dwellings (38.8%).

The approximate value of the constructions, for the commencement of which the planning and building control authorities granted building permits by the end of May, amounts to CZK 116 741 million at current prices, which translates into an increase of CZK 8 011 million on the corresponding period of 2003.

A total of CZK 71 107 million (a decrease of CZK 4 304 million year-on-year, i.e. – 5.7%) should be spent on construction of buildings, of which CZK 34 825 million on residential buildings (by CZK 3 938 million more) and CZK 36 282 million on non-residential ones (- CZK 8 242 million).

A total of CZK 9 826 million should be invested in constructions for environmental protection - i.e. by CZK 1 634 million more than in the corresponding period of 2003.

The approximate value for the other constructions amounts to CZK 35 808 million - a rise of CZK 10 681 million on the corresponding period of 2003.
