Building Permits Granted

Between the beginning of January and the end of March 2004 the planning and building control authorities granted a total of 29 258 building permits on the territory of the Czech Republic, which is 4 304 permits up on the corresponding period of 2003.
There were 16 009 building permits granted for buildings in total (i.e. + 1 847 year-on-year) of which residential buildings accounted for 10 464 permits (+ 1 263) and non-residential buildings for 5 545 (+ 584).
The number of building permits granted for constructions for environmental protections was 6 279, which translates into an increase of 824.
The number of building permits granted for other constructions amounted to 6 970, which is by 1 633 more than in the corresponding period of 2003.

Of the total 29 258 building permits, 13 780 was granted for new construction (47,1%) and 15 478 for renewals and enhancements (52,9%).

Territorially, rather high investment activities are expected in the Středočeský Region (17,6%), Jihomoravský Region (13,7%) and the capital city of Prague (10,1%), which is in contrast to the lowest construction activities expected in the Karlovarský Region (2,8%), Liberecký Region (3,7%) and the Pardubický Region (4,1%).

There were 10 464 building permits granted for residential buildings: 3 212 of them for new construction and 7 252 for renewals and enhancements. Most of them were granted in the Středočeský Region (17,5%), the Jihomoravský Region (12,1%) and the Moravskoslezský Region (7,7%). 1 856 building permits issued on the territory of the capital city of Prague make up 17,7%, of which 5,4% account for new construction. 69,3% of the building permits granted of the total comes under renewals and enhancements.

The buildings, which were given a go-ahead for the start of construction in January and March, are supposed to provide 13 623 dwellings throughout the Czech Republic. New construction should provide 6 328 dwellings (46,4%; 6 193 and 135 dwellings in residential and non-residential buildings, respectively). Renewals and enhancements resulting in dwellings should be provide 2 332 dwellings (17,1%; 1 364 in residential buildings and 968 in non-residential buildings). Total 7 557 new dwellings. The other renewals and enhancements (i.e. those that do not produce new dwellings) should result in 4 930 reconstructed dwellings (36,2%).

The approximate value of the constructions, for the commencement of which the planning and building control authorities granted building permits by the end of March, amounts to CZK 62 898 million at current prices, which translates into an increase of CZK 618 million on the corresponding period of 2003.
A total of CZK 35 483 million (a decrease of CZK 11 205 million year-on-year, i.e. - 24,0%) should be spent on construction of buildings, of which CZK 18 209 million on residential buildings (by CZK 1 057 million more) and CZK 17 274 million on non-residential ones (- CZK 12 262 million).
A total of CZK 5 785 million should be invested in constructions for environmental protection - i.e. by CZK 1 111 million more than in the corresponding period of 2003.
The approximate value for the other constructions amounts to CZK 21 630 million - a rise of CZK 10 712 million on the corresponding period of 2003.
