There were 46 489 building permits granted for buildings in total (i.e. + 2 106 year-on-year) of which residential buildings accounted for 29 830 permits (+ 859) and non-residential buildings for 16 659 (+ 1 247).

Of the total 84 087 building permits, 40 339 was granted for new construction (48.0%) and 43 748 for renewals and enhancements (52.0%).

Territorially, rather high investment activities are expected in the Středočeský Region (17.6%), Jihomoravský Region (13.1%) and the capital city of Prague (8.6%), which is in contrast to the lowest construction activities expected in the Karlovarský Region (2.7%), the Liberecký Region (3.8%) and the Pardubický Region (4.4%).

The buildings, which were given a go-ahead for the start of construction in January and July, are supposed to provide 36 983 dwellings throughout the Czech Republic. Renewals and enhancements resulting in dwellings should be provide 5 473 dwellings (14.8%; 3 856 in residential buildings and 1 617 in non-residential buildings). Total 22 680 new dwellings. The other renewals and enhancements (i.e. those that do not produce new dwellings) should result in 14 303 reconstructed dwellings (38.7%).

The approximate value of the constructions, for the commencement of which the planning and building control authorities granted building permits by the end of July, amounts to CZK 166 569 million at current prices, which translates into an increase of CZK 9 704 million on the corresponding period of 2003.

A total of CZK 104 268 million (an increase of CZK 554 million year-on-year, i.e. + 0.5%) should be spent on construction of buildings, of which CZK 51 722 million on residential buildings (by CZK 4 690 million more) and CZK 52 546 million on non-residential ones (- CZK 4 136 million).
