Building Permits Granted

Between the beginning of January and the end of February 2004 the planning and building control authorities granted a total of 17 287 building permits on the territory of the Czech Republic, which is 2 609 permits up on the corresponding period of 2003.

There were 9 442 building permits granted for buildings in total (i.e. + 1 279 year-on-year) of which residential buildings accounted for 6 131 permits (+ 920) and non-residential buildings for 3 311 (+ 359).

The number of building permits granted for constructions for environmental protections was 3 710, which translates into an increase of 300.

The number of building permits granted for other constructions amounted to 4 135, which is by 1 030 more than in the corresponding period of 2003.

Of the total 17 287 building permits, 8 120 was granted for new construction (47,0%) and 9 167 for renewals and enhancements (53,0%).

Territorially, rather high investment activities are expected in the Středočeský Region (17,6%), Jihomoravský Region (13,0%) and the capital city of Prague (10,1%), which is in contrast to the lowest construction activities expected in the Karlovarský Region (3,1%), Liberecký Region (3,6%) and the Pardubický Region (4,3%).

There were 6 131 building permits granted for residential buildings: 1 817 of them for new construction and 4 314 for renewals and enhancements. Most of them were granted in the Středočeský Region (17,3%), the Jihomoravský Region (11,7%) and the Moravskoslezský Region (7,5%). 1 084 building permits issued on the territory of the capital city of Prague make up 17,7%, of which 4,3% account for new construction. 70,4% of the building permits granted of the total comes under renewals and enhancements.

The buildings, which were given a go-ahead for the start of construction in January and February, are supposed to provide 8 558 dwellings throughout the Czech Republic. New construction should provide 4 033 dwellings (46,2%; 3 954 and 79 dwellings in residential and non-residential buildings, respectively). Renewals and enhancements resulting in dwellings should be provide 1 508 dwellings (17,6%; 937 in residential buildings and 571 in non-residential buildings). Total 5 541 new dwellings. The other renewals and enhancements (i.e. those that do not produce new dwellings) should result in 3 017 reconstructed dwellings (35,2%).

The approximate value of the constructions, for the commencement of which the planning and building control authorities granted building permits by the end of February, amounts to CZK 41 620 million at current prices, which translates into an increase of CZK 523 million on the corresponding period of 2003.

A total of CZK 21 838 million (a decrease of CZK 9 163 million year-on-year, i.e. - 29,6%) should be spent on construction of buildings, of which CZK 11 614 million on residential buildings (by CZK 1 412 million more) and CZK 10 224 million on non-residential ones (- CZK 10 555 million).

A total of CZK 2 983 million should be invested in constructions for environmental protection - i.e. by CZK 164 million less than in the corresponding period of 2003.

The approximate value for the other constructions amounts to CZK 16 799 million - a rise of CZK 9 840 million on the corresponding period of 2003.
