Building Permits Granted

Between the beginning of January and the end of August 2004 the planning and building control authorities granted a total of 98 719 building permits on the territory of the Czech Republic, which is 6 108 permits up on the corresponding period of 2003.
There were 54 205 building permits granted for buildings in total (i.e. + 1 865 year-on-year) of which residential buildings accounted for 34 730 permits (+ 653) and non-residential buildings for 19 475 (+ 1 212).
The number of building permits granted for constructions for environmental protections was 21 007, which translates into a decrease of 84.
The number of building permits granted for other constructions amounted to 23 507, which is by 4 327 more than in the corresponding period of 2003.
Of the total 98 719 building permits, 47 770 was granted for new construction (48.4%) and 50 949 for renewals and enhancements (51.6%).
Territorially, rather high investment activities are expected in the Středočeský Region (17.7%), Jihomoravský Region (12.9%) and the capital city of Prague (8.6%), which is in contrast to the lowest construction activities expected in the Karlovarský Region (2.7%), the Liberecký Region (3.9%) and the Pardubický Region (4.4%).
There were 34 730 building permits granted for residential buildings: 11 341 of them for new construction and 23 389 for renewals and enhancements. Most of them were granted in the Středočeský Region (17.6%), the Jihomoravský Region (12.3%) and the Moravskoslezský Region (8.6%). 5 323 building permits issued on the territory of the capital city of Prague make up 15.3%, of which 4.0% account for new construction. 67.3% of the building permits granted of the total comes under renewals and enhancements.
The buildings, which were given a go-ahead for the start of construction in January and August, are supposed to provide 42 590 dwellings throughout the Czech Republic. New construction should provide 19 949 dwellings (46.8%; 19 632 and 317 dwellings in residential and non-residential buildings, respectively). Renewals and enhancements resulting in dwellings should be provide 6 364 dwellings (14.9%; 4 475 in residential buildings and 1 889 in non-residential buildings). Total 26 613 new dwellings. The other renewals and enhancements (i.e. those that do not produce new dwellings) should result in 16 277 reconstructed dwellings (38.2%).
The approximate value of the constructions, for the commencement of which the planning and building control authorities granted building permits by the end of August, amounts to CZK 197 692 million at current prices, which translates into an increase of CZK 8 226 million on the corresponding period of 2003.
A total of CZK 122 473 million (an increase of CZK 2 474 million year-on-year, i.e. + 2.1%) should be spent on construction of buildings, of which CZK 60 646 million on residential buildings (by CZK 5 535 million more) and CZK 61 827 million on non-residential ones (- CZK 3 061 million).
A total of CZK 16 284 million should be invested in constructions for environmental protection - i.e. by CZK 383 million less than in the corresponding period of 2003.
The approximate value for the other constructions amounts to CZK 58 938 million - a rise of CZK 6 135 million on the corresponding period of 2003.
