Building Permits Granted

Between the beginning of January and the end of April 2004 the planning and building control authorities granted a total of 42 333 building permits on the territory of the Czech Republic, which is 5 985 permits up on the corresponding period of 2003.
There were 23 313 building permits granted for buildings in total (i.e. + 2 447 year-on-year) of which residential buildings accounted for 15 205 permits (+ 1 640) and non-residential buildings for 8 108 (+ 807).
The number of building permits granted for constructions for environmental protections was 8 947, which translates into an increase of 1 143.
The number of building permits granted for other constructions amounted to 10 073, which is by 2 395 more than in the corresponding period of 2003.

Of the total 42 333 building permits, 19 938 was granted for new construction (47.1%) and 22 395 for renewals and enhancements (52.9%).

Territorially, rather high investment activities are expected in the Středočeský Region (17.8%), Jihomoravský Region (13.5%) and the capital city of Prague (9.7%), which is in contrast to the lowest construction activities expected in the Karlovarský Region (2.7%), Liberecký Region (3.7%) and the Pardubický Region (4.2%).

There were 15 205 building permits granted for residential buildings: 4 717 of them for new construction and 10 488 for renewals and enhancements. Most of them were granted in the Středočeský Region (17.2%), the Jihomoravský Region (12.4%) and the Moravskoslezský Region (7.9%). 2 566 building permits issued on the territory of the capital city of Prague make up 16.9%, of which 4.7% account for new construction. 69.0% of the building permits granted of the total comes under renewals and enhancements.

The buildings, which were given a go-ahead for the start of construction in January and April, are supposed to provide 19 326 dwellings throughout the Czech Republic. New construction should provide 8 834 dwellings (45.7%; 8 666 and 168 dwellings in residential and non-residential buildings, respectively). Renewals and enhancements resulting in dwellings should be provide 3 276 dwellings (17.0%; 2 118 in residential buildings and 1 158 in non-residential buildings). Total 12 110 new dwellings. The other renewals and enhancements (i.e. those that do not produce new dwellings) should result in 7 216 reconstructed dwellings (37.3%).

The approximate value of the constructions, for the commencement of which the planning and building control authorities granted building permits by the end of April, amounts to CZK 92 052 million at current prices, which translates into an increase of CZK 6 577 million on the corresponding period of 2003.
A total of CZK 52 076 million (a decrease of CZK 9 343 million year-on-year, i.e. – 15.2%) should be spent on construction of buildings, of which CZK 26 386 million on residential buildings (by CZK 2 350 million more) and CZK 25 690 million on non-residential ones (- CZK 11 693 million).
A total of CZK 7 729 million should be invested in constructions for environmental protection - i.e. by CZK 1 347 million more than in the corresponding period of 2003.
The approximate value for the other constructions amounts to CZK 32 247 million - a rise of CZK 14 573 million on the corresponding period of 2003.
