Building Permits Granted

In January 2004 the planning and building control authorities granted a total of 8 692 building permits on the territory of the Czech Republic, which is 1 773 permits up on the corresponding period of 2003.
There were 4 768 building permits granted for buildings in total (i.e. + 898 year-on-year) of which residential buildings accounted for 3 085 permits (+ 688) and non-residential buildings for 1 683 (+ 210).
The number of building permits granted for constructions for environmental protections was 2 012, which translates into an increase of 417.
The number of building permits granted for other constructions amounted to 1 912, which is by 458 more than in the corresponding period of 2003.
Of the total 8 692 building permits, 3 958 was granted for new construction (45,9%) and 4 734 for renewals and enhancements (54,1%).
Territorially, rather high investment activities are expected in the Středočeský Region (20,1%), Jihomoravský Region (12,1%) and the capital city of Prague (10,4%), which is in contrast to the lowest construction activities expected in the Liberecký Region (3,5%), Karlovarský Region (3,6%) and the Olomoucký Region (4,1%).
There were 3 085 building permits granted for residential buildings: 919 of them for new construction and 2 166 for renewals and enhancements. Most of them were granted in the Středočeský Region (19,2%), the Jihomoravský Region (10,9%) and the Moravskoslezský Region (7,6%). 564 building permits issued on the territory of the capital city of Prague make up 18,3%, of which 4,2% account for new construction. 70,2% of the building permits granted of the total comes under renewals and enhancements.
The buildings, which were given a go-ahead for the start of construction in January, are supposed to provide 4 874 dwellings throughout the Czech Republic. New construction should provide 2 548 dwellings (52,3%; 2 541 and 7 dwellings in residential and non-residential buildings, respectively). Renewals and enhancements resulting in dwellings should be provide 950 dwellings (19,5%; 504 in residential buildings and 446 in non-residential buildings). Total 3 489 new dwellings. The other renewals and enhancements (i.e. those that do not produce new dwellings) should result in 1 376 reconstructed dwellings (28,2%).
The approximate value of the constructions, for the commencement of which the planning and building control authorities granted building permits in January, amounts to CZK 25 265 million at current prices, which translates into an increase of CZK 3 237 million on the corresponding period of 2003.
A total of CZK 10 690 million (a decrease of CZK 8 439 million year-on-year, i.e. - 44,1%) should be spent on construction of buildings, of which CZK 6 371 million on residential buildings (by CZK 1 125 million more) and CZK 4 319 million on non-residential ones (- CZK 9 564 million).
A total of CZK 1 545 million should be invested in constructions for environmental protection - i.e. by CZK 510 million more than in the corresponding period of 2003.
The approximate value for the other constructions amounts to CZK 13 030 million - a rise of CZK 11 166 million on the corresponding period of 2003.
