Methodological Note on Statistical Data
on Imports and Exports by CPA 2

This publication contains external trade data broken down by CPA 2 and data on imports and exports for the purpose of and after inward and outward processing according to CPA 2.
In order to achieve a better explanatory power and comparability of data between external trade statistics, enterprise statistics and national accounts, data have been converted according to the structure of the Classification of Products by Activity (CPA) down to the two-digit level.
The source of information on external trade are data collected by customs authorities. Starting from processing of the January 2004 data, data collection and the first check are carried out by the Directorate General of Customs (DGC), whereas the Czech Statistical Office is in charge of further data processing, checks and publishing.
Data on imported and exported goods in trade with third countries are given in a Single Administrative Document (SAD). Data on goods traded between Member States of the Communities are supplied by reporting units to the customs office on the Intrastat questionnaire, with information on dispatching of goods or receipt of goods. However, the results of external trade statistics are published as a whole, i.e. imports and exports of the Czech Republic.
As expected, the value of moving goods for inward processing in the Czech Republic and in other EU Member States decreased after Intrastat had been implemented. Goods purchased for the purpose of processing by person who carries out or organises the processing cannot be regarded as goods received or dispatched for the purpose of processing.
Imports and exports data should be regarded as preliminary ones. Data published by individual quarter will be subse-quently updated.
