Population of the CR

Preface

Contents

This publication contains preliminary data on population movement in the Czech Republic in the first to third quarter of 2007. Since 2007 there are two changes in tables. In table 2.1. the live births are newly sorted by birth order regardless of the marital status of mother. In table 4.1. are now treated only divorces, not the divorce proceedings settled by another court decision. Since 2007 the divorces are classified not by the date of report but by the date of legal liability of the divorce. Because of the methodological change the gap between preliminary and definite numbers of divorces will be higher.

Based on the Decree No. 513/2006 Coll., which modifies the Decree No. 564/2002 Coll., on the districts of the Czech Republic, were 119 municipalities shifted between the districts as of 1 January 2007. These changes caused administrative changes in the number of population of NUTS4 districts between 31 December 2006 and 1 January 2007. From 77 NUTS4 districts, 29 lost population, most of them Plzeň-jih (-15.8% of population), Břeclav (-8.3%), Frýdek-Místek (-8.0%), Kolín (-6.8%) and Plzeň-sever (-5.3%). Another 18 districts gained population, most of them Plzeň-město (+9.4%), Ostrava-město (+9.1%), Brno-venkov (+9.0%) and Praha-východ (+8.9%). Thirty NUTS4 districts remained unchanged, there was no change between NUTS3 regions.

Along with this publication is being published the News Release of the Czech Statistical Office, which brings the compact analysis of population development in the first to third quarter of 2007.
