Outputs of the sample survey on pigs are included in the publication. List of respondents was generated from the updated Farm Register. Grossing-up process and data publication were carried out up to the level of structural data in Agrocensus 2000, i.e. estimates for units below thresholds (i.e. “hobby activities”) are not included. This approach is in compliance with the EU legislation defining the statistical reporting unit with specified thresholds.
Survey on pigs is carried out in the form of a sample survey with grossing-up. Sample set is stratified according to grossing-up group of the respondent unit, number of livestock kept, productive sub-sector and region, where is the reporting unit farming or placed and the percentage of units selected for the survey is based on the number of livestock kept. Legal as well as natural person units are covered in the sample set.
Background data for the sample survey come from book-keeping and stock records of the reporting units. The sample survey on pigs was carried out quarterly up to 2002, in 2003 and 2004 it surveyed the situation as of 1. 8. and 1. 12., and starting in 2005 it has been carried out three times per year: as of 1. 4., 1. 8. and 31. 12. In December survey numbers of pigs relate to 1.12. whereas production variables relate to 31.12. according to the EU legislation. Contrary to the previous year data on sale of pigs for slaughter included in table 13 was gathered at respondent units (in 2005 data on purchase of pigs for slaughter was taken from the survey on livestock slaughtering).
Survey results are published not only as national totals but also by region (NUTS 3).
