Weather for harvest work and pre- sowing work was suitable in the majority of the republic territory. After a little bit dry August with unstable precipitations came the period of time with good moisture conditions and it reflected in the positive grow and development of rape and cereals. Sowing work was performed according to agro-technical deadlines. The germination of winter cereals was quick, steady and even some late sown plants were in good shape thank to suitable weather conditions. Shape of winter crops was very good also after germination during November and December when the development of weather was also very convenient. Gradual fall of temperature slowly finished grow of plants which were prepared for winter cultivation inactivity very well. In the spring crops had to face some stress factors in the short period of time. Several days with relatively high temperature changed very cool days with the lack of precipitations. In addition a freeze in the end of April was also very dangerous for agricultural plants and some areas with geminating sugar beet and fruit trees were damaged. Also rape, vegetables and some spring and winter plants were also damaged but losses had only local significance. The total shape of crops is very good.

Acreage of agricultural land resulted from the survey of sowing areas indicates 3 605 thous. ha in the year 2005, it means by 26 thous. ha (0,7%) less than in the year 2004. The acreage of arable land is 2 703 thous. ha, it means by 16 thous. ha (0,6%) less matching the year 2004. Its share in total agricultural area is 75,0%. Permanent grassland cover 853 thous. ha, it means by 5 thous. ha (0,6%) less than in 2004. Its share in total agricultural area is 23,7%. The acreage of arable land not sown and fallow is also lower, by 9 thous. ha (17%) it means 1,7% of surveyed acreage of arable land.

Cereals are cultivated on 60% of sowing areas (59% of arable land), of which the most spread winter wheat occupies 28,7% of sowing area. The root crops cover 3,9%, oil plants 15,0% (of which rape 10,1%) and fodder crops on arable land cover 18,5% (of which perennial 8,3%) of total sowing area.

Sowing areas with cereals cover 1 593 thous. ha it is by 14 thous. ha (0,9%) less than in 2004. Legumes are cultivated on 39 thous. ha, it is by 11 thous. ha more matching 2004. Root crops occupy 103 thous. ha, it is by 6 thous. ha less matching 2004. Increase of sowing areas was indicated by oil plants which are on the acreage of 400 thous. ha, it means by 17 thous. ha more than in 2004. Also industrial plants recorded the increase of sowing areas by 13 thous. ha. Fodder plants on arable land are on the acreage less by 9 thous. ha than in the year 2004.
