COMMENTARY
The publication Water supply, sewerage and watercourses 2006 presents the information processed from the questionnaire VH 8b-01 – the annual questionnaire on public water supply and sewerage systems for the year 2006 which remained unchanged compared to the previous year as well as its processing at the Statistical Processing Department České Budějovice.
The questionnaires were sent to 1,551 entities and the data in the statistical return were provided by 1,211 respondents, i.e. 240 operators of water supply and sewerage systems and a sample of 971 municipalities in the Czech Republic operating the public water supply and sewerage systems on their own. The third year of using the model of the mathematical statistical grossing-up procedure made us understand that the model may improve the work of respondents with the questionnaires.
Published results are calculated from unrounded values and are shown for the Czech Republic in total, broken down by territory NUTS-3 (regions) or NUTS-2 (areas).
Data on water supply and sewerage systems for 2006 – includes data grossed up to the Czech Republic in total, broken down by region (NUTS 3).
Comparing of results and development trends
Part 1
Water supply systems - the indicator Percentage of the population supplied with water from water-supply systems recorded a nationwide increase by 0.8% and made 92.4%° y-o-y; the y-o-y (2005/2006) index is 101.1 which is an increase by 106 thousand inhabitants (given the present increase of the number of population by 32.5 thousand people). This trend is observed in all regions, save for one.
The indicators for production of drinking water for implementation, total water invoiced and water invoiced to households recorded a moderate decrease compared with the previous year and maintain a long-term downward trend. Compared with the past year the quantity of water invoiced to industry increased (7.4% up) and to agriculture (3.2% up).
Specific consumption of drinking water per inhabitant and day dropped from 155.3 litres in the past year to 152.6 litres (the index for 2006/2005 is 98.3), specific consumption of drinking water per household member decreased from 98.9 litres per day to 97.5 litres per day (index is 98.6). This decline can obviously be attributed to the increase of the price for water which in the observed year rose from the average last year water rate CZK 22.45 per m3 to CZK 23.38 per m3. The rate is exclusive of VAT.
Sewerage systems - the figure of Population living in houses connected to sewerage systems shows and increasing tendency; in the observed year it rose by 0.9% which is an increase by 116 thousand inhabitants, y-o-y index is 101.4. Almost the same increase (101,2) showed the index 2006/2005 for the population living in houses connected to wastewater treatment plants which is approximately 92 thousand inhabitants. The sewerage collection charges go up regularly and in the last year they reached CZK 19.33 per m3 compared to CZK 18.14 per m3 in 2005. The charges are exclusive of VAT.
The number of wastewater treatment plants increased by 23 facilities, the same applies to their capacity and sewage sludge produced. In the observed year a 0.3% drop was recorded for Wastewater discharged into sewerage systems and a 0.7% increase for water treated (excl. precipitation); the share of treated water decreased to (94.2) by 0.4%.
Part 2
Aggregates on water supply and sewerage systems for 2006 show selected data for the entire Czech Republic and are processed by area (NUTS 2); some key data are compared to the results recorded for 2005.
Final part 3 of the publication includes data from the annual questionnaire VH8a-01 on water courses, surface water supplies, water discharged and contamination of water courses under the management of 5 state-owned enterprises Povodí.
