Table D - 1.1 to D - 1.3 Land use

Information on agricultural and non - agricultural land is obtained by summarising data on crop areas according to the land register kept by the Czech Office for Surveying, Mapping and Cadastre as of 31 December of a given year. Before 1999 the data obtained in this way were related to 1 January of a given year and the state relating to 1 January of the following year was reported to be the state at the end of the given year.

Agricultural land includes all types of land serving directly for the agricultural crop production process.
It comprises arable land, hop-gardens, vineyards, gardens, orchards, meadows and pasture land. Meadows and pasture land are published as permanent grassland since 2000.

Non-agricultural land is all other land, namely forest land, ponds and other water body surface areas, built-up and other areas.
All data on land are surveyed as crop areas of both farms and non-agricultural establishments or of private owners, no distinction being made as to the type of ownership and land size.
Based on the agreement with the Czech Office for Surveying, Mapping and Cadastre - the author of the source publication ”Statistical Yearbook of Land Resources", the figures listed in the tables on land are published with sum-up discrepancies caused by rounding-off.

Table D - 1.4 to D - 1.7 Agriculture

Livestock population is retrieved from livestock censuses as of 1 January and 1 March before and since 1992, respectively.
Yield per hectare is the ratio of harvest to harvest area.
Harvest refers to the total quantity of a crop that has a standard moisture content and purity, also including inferior portions of the crop, which can be used to feed livestock.
Harvest area is an area from which the crop measured has been harvested.
The consumption of fertilizers is given in terms of active substance (net nutrient) contained in oxides, except N.
The consumption per 1 ha refers to cultivated (not fertilized) land. Conversion of the consumption per 1 ha is made in the time series so that the figures will be comparable between individual years.
The agricultural year covers consumption from 1 July of previous year to 30 June of current year. Figures exclude those for self-employed farmers (due to amendments to the surveying method).
