2. Population and housing cenzus | Contents |
This chapter presents basic data derived from final results of the Population and Housing Census held under Act No. 158/1999 Coll. on the entire territory of the Czech Republic on 1 March 2001. The data refer to the midnight from 28 February to 1 March 2001 (the fixed moment of the census).
The census included:
a) each actual person with permanent or long-term stay on the territory of the Czech Republic at the fixed moment of the census;
b) each actual person without permanent or long-term stay but present on the territory of the CzechRepublic at the fixed moment of the census;
c) each house whether occupied or not;
d) each dwelling whether occupied or not.
Population: by population and housing census results
Population, total includes persons who had permanent or long-term stay on the territory of the Czech Republic irrespective of whether or not they were at the place of permanent or long-term stay at the fixed moment of the census. Compared to results of previous censuses, the figure for 2001 includes not only the number of persons with permanent stay, but also the number of persons with long-term stay. In compliance with Act No. 326/1999 Coll., on the Stay of Foreigners on the Territory of the Czech Republic, the long-term stay is a temporary stay of foreigners on the territory of the Czech Republic based on visas for stay over 90 days.
Highest educational attainment - this question was answered only by citizens aged 15+ according to their highest school completed.
Level of education - secondary vocational & technical without GCSE - it includes subjects without GCSE and secondary vocational & technical education without GCSE;
- full secondary with GCSE - it includes subjects with GCSE, full secondary general education with GCSE, full secondary technical education with GCSE, extension study and higher professional education;
- university - it includes graduates from universities and also current doctoral study programme and former second stage of university education, i.e. those who have the following titles: PhD., ThD., CSc., DrSc.
Population: by economic activity
Number of economically active - it includes all persons who answered at the "Census Questionnaire - Persons" that they belong to employed persons, employees, self-employed, working pensioners, working students and apprentices, females on maternity leave taking 28 or 37 weeks, temporary members of the armed forces (including those on compulsory community service), persons in custody and imprisoned or unemployed persons.
Unemployed, total includes all persons aged 15+, who were unemployed, actively seeking employment and ready to take up a job.
