New library system for the Central Statistical Library of the Czech Statistical Office

Project date
01/2025 – 12/2026

Project estimated costs
401 950,00 Kč

Purpose of the project
The Central Statistical Library of the Czech Statistical Office provides library and information services in accordance with Act No. 257/2001 Coll., while the Czech Statistical Office, as its operator, is obliged to ensure equal access to these services, including making documents from its own resources and other library collections available. The ÚSK manages a collection built over more than 100 years, which today numbers approximately 60 thousand volumes, and in order to fulfill its legal obligations, it must operate a stable and modern library information system with metadata management according to international standards. The outdated system Clavius, that has been used, does not allow the introduction of automated processes or innovative solutions. Data migration to the new system will therefore enable more efficient collection management and easier connection with other libraries at the national level. At the same time, innovative technological equipment will be purchased, especially RFID technology, which will ensure more effective recording and revision of the library collection, simplify the provision of library and information services, increase user comfort for readers and create conditions for the introduction of absentee loans.

Project objective
Modernization of the Central Statistical Library through the purchase of a new automated library system and the implementation of RFID technology, which will ensure effective management of the library collection, registration of readers and loans and enable the application of international standards in the provision of public library and information services. The project also includes the expansion of the library's technological equipment with the aim of reducing the administrative burden of staff, increasing the efficiency of management and protection of the collection and creating conditions for the future introduction of additional security measures; the replacement of the existing system is one of the priority tasks of the CZSO.
