R&D in the government and higher education sector

In the government and higher education sector, a total of 48 CZK billion was spent on research and development (R&D) in 2023. The higher education sector accounted for 26.2 billion CZK and the government sector 21.8 billion CZK. These two sectors accounted for 34% of the total expenditure on R&D. 13.8 thousand persons (full-time equivalent) were employed in R&D in the government sector and in the higher education sector there were almost 20,000 employees. In the higher education sector, 41% of R&D workers were women, in the case of the government sector it was 49%.
