Protected areas
In 2021, the total area of specially protected areas in Czechia was 1,324.9 thousand ha, which represents 16.8% of the territory of Czechia. Czechia contributed 1,112 sites of European importance to the Natura 2000 system, which represents 10.1% of the territory of Czechia. Together with bird areas, which in 2021 occupied 8.9% of the territory of Czechia, Natura 2000 makes up roughly 14% of the territory of Czechia. Sites of European importance and bird areas may overlap.
