Elections to local councils

Elections to local councils are carried out according to the principles of proportional representation, only in the territory of the Czech Republic. From 5 to 70 councillors are elected. Voters vote in over 6 thousand municipalities and city sections or city districts. During an electoral term, the following types of elections can be held in extraordinary terms: new elections, additional elections, repeated elections, or a repeated voting. The conduct of the elections is governed by the Act No 491/2001 Sb.
