Employment and wages of women and men

The employment rate of women has long lagged behind that of men, but the gap is gradually decreasing; in 2023, it reached 67.0% among men over the age of 15 in the Czech Republic, while it was 16.9 percentage points lower among women. Approximately 17% of employed men and less than a tenth of women worked on their own account. The general unemployment rate for women in 2023 was 3.0% and for men 2.2%. The median gross monthly wage of women (36.7 thousand CZK in 2023) was 5.6 thousand CZK lower than that of men.
