Elections to the Senate

Elections to the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic are carried out according to the principles of a majority system. Every two years 1/3 of senators is elected for a 6-year electoral term, i.e. in regular elections the elections take place in 27 senatorial districts. The elections only take place in the territory of the Czech Republic. When a mandate of a senator is terminated during the electoral term, a by-election to the Senate is held. The conduct of the elections is governed by the Act No 247/1995 Sb.
