Economic activity (status) of foreigners

As at 31 December 2025, the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs recorded 935.3 thousand employment relationships involving foreign nationals in employee status, up 89.9 thousand (11%) year-on-year. The largest increase, of more than 53 thousand, was recorded among Ukrainian citizens, who accounted for nearly two-fifths of all employment relationships (357.8 thousand). The number of employment relationships of Slovak citizens increased by almost 13.5 thousand (to 229.0 thousand), representing approximately one-quarter of the total. They were followed by citizens of Romania (45.4 thousand), Poland (44.4 thousand) and Bulgaria (34.8 thousand). As at the same date, the Ministry of Industry and Trade) recorded 145.5 thousand foreign nationals holding a valid trade licence, up 13.8 thousand (10%) year-on-year. The largest groups were citizens of Ukraine (36%), Slovakia (19%) and Vietnam (15%).
