The European Volleyball Tournament for Statisticians
The European Volleyball Tournament for Statisticians (EVS) was established in 1990 in the city of Voorburg in The Netherlands. This volleyball tournament is a sportive venue for statisticians from all over Europe. Not only statistical offices are invited to participate, but also statistical departments of other institutions or universities. Matches are played according to a set of rules with male, female and mixed teams in separate categories.
When EVS was born in 1990 nobody knew it would be that successful. In the beginning there were few teams divided into female and male teams. But thanks to the efforts of EVS Headquarters in the Netherlands the EVS family enlarged more and more. Everyone who has ever been to an EVS returns very happy and enthusiastic and does not want to miss any EVS in the future. The idea of EVS is simple: European statisticians play volleyball and have fun. Besides they learn something about the culture of their European neighbours and show that frontiers exist only on geographical maps. In 2006 we will write chapter 17 of EVS history, so think well: if you want to take part in this chapter come to Hradec Krlov!
We hope to see you soon!
