List of statistical classifications in force

    According to Act No. 89/1995 Coll., on State Statistical Service, as last amended, the Czech Statistical Office (CZSO) is entrusted with the responsibility to produce and update statistical classifications for statistical purposes.

    The classifications make it possible to correctly classify observed phenomena and processes and ensure that these are comparable in terms of space and time. During the 1990s the CZSO developed a new system of economic, social, geographic, and other classifications, which stem from valid international standards (of the UN and the EU in particular). The new classification system corresponds with the economic and social environment and the international integration of the Czech Republic (CR). At present, the CZSO and the departmental units of the Czech State Statistical Service use the following statistical classifications and nomenclatures:

1. Industrial Classification of Economic Activities, CZ-NACE

   Introduced by the CZSO Measure of 1 December 1993 (Vol. 77/1993 Coll.) with effect from 1 January 1994, updated in 1995, 1998 and 2002. The updated version corresponds to the international standard Nomenclature des Activités économiques des Communautés Européennes (NACE Rev.1.1) (or Statistical Classififcation of Economic Activities of the European Communities, Rev. 1.1) and the International Standard Industrial Classification of All Economic Activities (ISIC Rev. 3). It classifies all economic activities carried out by business using one-character and two-character alphabetical codes and four-level (5-digit) numerical codes, the four level (5th place) showing national specifics.

2. Standard Classification of Production, CZ-CPA

    CZSO Communication of 5 December 2002 (Vol. 198/2002 Coll.) introduced the second edition of the SKP with effect from 1 January 2003. The second edition corresponds to the updated edition of the international standard Central Product Classification 2002 (CPC2002). It classifies goods, work and services as products of economic activities of industries broken down into five levels (6 digits).

3. Nomenclature CZ-PRODCOM

   Introduced by the CZSO Measure of 25 January 2000 (Vol. 8/2000 Coll.) with effect from 1 January 2000. It corresponds to the international European standard Production Communautaire (EU PRODCOM) and classifies industrial products and services, using eight-character numerical codes.

4. Classification of Occupations, CZ-ISCO
 

    Introduced by the CZSO Measure of 22 July 1996 (Vol. 62/1996 Coll.) with effect from 1 January 1997. It corresponds to the International Standard Classification of Occupations ISCO-88 (ILO standard) or ISCO-88(COM) (EU standard) and classifies occupations as particular activities, which are carried out by individuals and are sources of their incomes. The national classification uses a five-level breakdown (5 digits). The international standard uses four-character codes. The KZAM-R adds one character more to cover national specifics.

5. Classification of Basic Branches of Education

   Introduced by the CZSO Measure of 16 June 1998 (Vol. 68/1998 Coll.) with effect from 1 September 1998, updated in 1999 and 2002. Its educational attainment category follows up the International Standard Classification of Education. The KKOV classifies basic branches of education, which define individual or partial areas of education according to their similarity as regards content. The code is two-dimensional: one dimension (4 digits) indicates basic branches of education, while the other (single-character alphabetical code) refers to educational attainment.

6. Classification of Status in Employment, CZ-ISCE

    Introduced by the CZSO Measure of 20 October 1997 (Vol. 90/1997 Coll.) with effect from 1 January 1998. It corresponds to the ILO International Classification of Status in Employment and classifies the status of economically active persons (occupied jobs) in employment.

7. Classification of the Functions of Government, CZ-COFOG(99)
 

    Introduced by the CZSO Measure of 4 December 1996 (Vol. 2/1997 Coll.) with effect from 1 January 1997, and updated in 2001. It corresponds to the international standard Classification of the Functions of Government of 1999 (COFOG), which is part of the international System of National Accounts (SNA). It classifies government expenditures, using a three-level breakdown (4 digits).

8. Classification of Services of Non-profit Institutions Serving Households by Purpose, CZ-COPNI(99)
   

   Introduced by the CZSO Measure of 9 August 2000 (Vol. 89/2000 Coll.) with effect from 1 January 2001. It corresponds to the international standard Classification of the Purposes of Non-profit Institutions Serving Households of 1999 (COPNI 99), which is part of the international System of National Accounts (SNA). It classifies individual expenditures of NPISHs by purpose they serve for, using a three-level breakdown (4 digits).

9. Classification of Individual Consumption by Purpose, CZ-COICOP(99)

    Introduced by the CZSO Measure of 4 December 1996 (Vol. 2/1997 Coll.) with effect from 1 January 1997, updated in 1998 and 2000. It corresponds to the international standard Classification of Individual Consumption by Purpose of 1999, which is part of the international System of National Accounts (SNA). It classifies all kinds of individual consumption by purpose, using a three-level breakdown (4 digits).

10. Nomenclature of Countries, CZ-GEONOM

    Introduced by the CZSO Measure of 9 September 1999 (Vol. 72/1999 Coll.) with effect from 1 January 2000, updated in 2001 and 2003. The classification corresponds to the international standard Geonomenclature (GEONOM) and classifies individual countries (states and dependent territories). It includes a list of countries with codes consisting of two letters and three digits and breakdowns by geographical and economic zones.

11. Classification of Territorial Statistical Units, CZ-NUTS
  

    Introduced by the CZSO Measure of 27 April 1999 (Vol. 33/1999 Coll.) with effect from 1 January 2000, updated in 2001. It corresponds to the European standard Nomenclature des Unités territoriales statistiques, NUTS (Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics) and classifies territorial units, which structurally make up the territory of the country according to constitutional law or another requirement. The Czech national version includes a six-level breakdown, from national to municipality levels, which uses a combination of alphabetic and numerical codes (12 digits).

12. Nomenclature of Institutional Sectors and Sub-sectors

    Introduced by the CZSO Measure of 20 October 1997 (Vol. 90/1997 Coll.) with effect from 1 January 1998 and updated in 2001. It explains selected basic concepts linked to the classification of business and includes codes for the representation of institutional sectors and sub-sectors contained in the European System of Accounts 1995 (ESA 95).

13. International Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems

   Introduced by the CZSO Measure of 5 May 1993 (Vol. 39/1993 Coll.) with effect from 1 January 1994. The national version complies with the international standard (ICD-10) and classifies diseases and related health problems, using a combination of alphabetical and numerical codes.

14. International Classification of Diseases for Oncology

   Introduced by the CZSO Measure of 11 December 2000 (Vol. 2/2001 Coll.) with effect from 1 January 2001. It corresponds to the international standard (ICD-O-2) and classifies neoplasms by histological type and topographical localisation. Its breakdown uses a combination of alphabetical and numerical codes.

15. TNM Classification of Malignant Tumours, TNM

   Introduced by the CZSO Measure of 11 December 2000 (Vol. 2/2001 Coll.) with effect from 1 January 2001. It corresponds to the international standard (TNM) and classifies malignant tumours by anatomic extent of disease. Its breakdown uses a combination of alphabetical and numerical codes.

16. Codes for the Representation of Selected Units of Measurement and Economic Quantities
 

    Introduced by the CZSO Measure of 27 December 2001 (Vol. 7/2002 Coll.) with effect from 1 February 2002. Selected units of measure used in the State Statistical Service are classified, and three-level codes (5 digits) are employed.

17. Codes for the Representation of Currencies and Funds

    Updated version of the nomenclature introduced by the CZSO Communication of 18 November 2002 (Vol. 181/2002 Coll.) with effect from 1 January 2003. It corresponds to international standard ISO 4217. The three-character alphabetical and numerical codes refer to currency-connected financial resources.

18. Codes for the Representation of Countries

    Introduced by the CZSO Measure of 7 May 1993 (Vol. 44/1993 Coll.) with effect from 1 July 1993, updated in 1993, 1995, 1998, 2001 and 2002. It uses three-character alphabetic and numerical codes which correspond to the international standard ISO 3166 and refer to independent states and some dependent territories.

19. Classification of Types of Construction
  

    Introduced by the CZSO Measure of 1 November 1993 (Vol. 69/1993 Coll.) to classify locally and spatially self-contained constructions. It uses a five-level (6 digits) breakdown.

20. Nomenclature of Municipalities with Extended Competence
 

    Introduced by the CZSO Communication of 29 October 2002 (Vol. 163/2002 Coll.) with effect from 1 January 2003. It includes municipalities with extended competence which execute state administration as laid down in Act No. 320/2002 Coll. It uses four-character codes also related to other territorial nomenclatures.

21. Nomenclature of Municipalities with Commissioned Local Authorities

    Introduced by the CZSO Communication of 29 October 2002 (Vol. 163/2002 Coll.) with effect from 1 January 2003. It includes municipalities with commissioned local authority, which executes state administration as laid down in Act. No. 320/2002 Coll. It uses five-character codes also related to other territorial nomenclatures.

22. Nomenclature of Administrative Districts of the Capital City of Prague

    Introduced by the CZSO Communication of 29 October 2002 (Vol. 163/2002 Coll.) with effect from 1 January 2003. It includes administrative districts of the Capital City of Prague as defined by the Resolution No. 25/18 of the Council of Representatives of Prague, of 21 December 2000. It uses four-character codes also related to other territorial nomenclatures.

23. Nomenclature of Municipalities

    Introduced by the CZSO Communication of 23 July 2002 (Vol. 128/2002 Coll.) with effect from 1 September 2002. It includes municipalities of the Czech Republic and their valid names as published in the Official Journal of the Ministry of the Interior CR. It uses six-character codes and is also related to other territorial nomenclatures.

24. Nomenclature of City Parts

    Introduced by the CSZO Communication of 23 July 2002 (Vol. 128/2002 Coll.) with effect from 1 September 2002. It includes city parts of statutory towns, which used their powers to further divide their towns administratively and territorially, and their valid names as published in the Official Journal of the Ministry of the Interior CR. It uses six-character codes and is also related to other territorial nomenclatures.

25. Nomenclature of Buildings with House Numbers
  

    Introduced by the CZSO Communication of 17 March 2003 (Vol. 38/2003 Coll.) with effect from the day of publication in the Collection of Laws (7 April 2003). It includes constructions within the Czech Republic defined by house numbers.
