Methodology - International trade in ICT goods

Goods in the area of information and communication technologies (hereinafter only referred to as “ICT goods”) are define as goods the main function of which is to realize or to enable communication or processing of information including its transmission and display in an electronic way.

A list of ICT goods used for international trade statistics is based on the nomenclature of the Harmonized commodity description and coding system (often simply called the Harmonized System, HS), which is a classification of goods used in international trade. For the purposes of international trade statistics, ICT goods are split into five main categories as follows:

  • Computers and peripheral equipment;
  • Communication equipment;
  • Consumer electronic equipment;
  • Electronic components;
  • ICT parts and components n.e.s.

Data on exports and imports of ICT goods come from data outputs of the international trade statistics, which tracks actual trade in goods realized between Czech and foreign entities, i.e. the trade, in which ownership changes between residents and non-residents.
