CZECH REPUBLIC IN INTERNATIONAL COMPARISON (selected indicators),

Introductory note

Contents

Within the framework of fulfilling strategic goals, enhancement of the CZSO’s prestige with the general public being one of them, we have prepared this one-off publication containing tabulated international comparisons of selected indicators. They compare the Czech Republic with the EU member states, in some cases with other countries of the world. The selection of the data reflects public demand, availability of international data sources and our effort to make available information published in previous editions of the Statistical Yearbook of the Czech Republic.

The publication is intentionally focused on areas related to the standard of living. The data cover the population, labour market, education, health and the environment; macroeconomic figures then compare GDP and GDP components per capita. Since the data preparation was considerably time consuming and the availability of international sources varied, it was not possible to present all-embracing information on the standard of living and the economy. As there is increasing interest also in other statistics, we intend to continue preparing similar publications in the future. A number of data and tables of international comparison can be found at www.czso.cz or in other publications of the Czech Statistical Office.

We hope this publication will provide a wide range of users with interesting information on the Czech Republic’s position in the EU and in the world. We welcome your comments and suggestions about the future orientation of publications like this one.
